Although Tower ArtWorks is a collaboration between husband and wife in a marriage of forty years, both of us bring our individual interpretation to the art we produce. Working exclusively in oil we believe it gives each of us the ability to create art that is vibrant and representative of our feelings. When we actively engage in painting we both have found that we "see" the world around us with a different eye. We strive to see the differences in the subtleties of the colors around us everyday. We see the shapes more clearly as well. Even simple objects come alive with a beauty all their own when one takes the time to really "see" them. This is the vision that we want to communicate in the art we create.

 

 

Painting in oil allows me the freedom to express my feelings as I record the impressions of what I see around me. I love the consistency of the oils and the way they are able to be manipulated on a canvas or a board. Although I enjoy painting landscapes and large flowers my real interest lies in portraiture. I especially enjoy working to produce results that truly represent the substance of my subject. My goal in portraiture is to achieve a good likeness and capture the personality of the subject while employing a more impressionistic style.

 

I am drawn to realism in my works whether landscapes, flowers or wildlife. I particularly enjoy wildlife portrayals since they allow me to explore the majesty of the animals and the beauty of the environment they live in. The environment around me provides an endless supply of subjects for my work and painting in oil allows me to express my reaction to all that I encounter. I try to give more than just something to look at. I want to engage the intellect with subject matter in a transporting and relaxing way. I want to engage the viewer on multiple levels.
